1. When did you start martial arts, and what motivated you to begin?

I started martial arts at university, initially in secret, saving my allowance to afford training. I had been exposed to it when I was younger, but wasn’t allowed to join at the time.

Once I had the independence, I began my journey properly. I was especially drawn to the feeling of kicking pads and the physical expression of movement, which kept me engaged and motivated to continue.

More recently, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for poomsae and the pursuit of precision and refinement in the art.

2. What made you decide to become a instructor?

I was encouraged by previous instructors who suggested I could teach students once I reached 4th Dan. When I later changed clubs, I was given the opportunity to assist with teaching, and I decided to give it a try. I ended up really enjoying the experience and continued developing as an instructor.

3. What are your goals as a Instructoror personal aspirations?

My goal as an instructor is to develop technically strong and confident athletes while also building their discipline and mindset. I want to create an environment where students enjoy training, stay motivated, and achieve their personal best.

Personally, I also aim to continue improving my own skills and knowledge so I can become a better coach over time.

4. What message would you like to share with your students?

I want my students to understand that I’m still learning too, and we are in this together. Progress doesn’t come from being perfect—it comes from showing up, putting in the work, and improving bit by bit. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or struggle with things, because that’s where real growth happens.

Just stay consistent, trust the process, and keep pushing yourself a little more each time.

5. What advice would you give to someone hesitating to start martial arts?

Just start. You don’t need to be good to begin—you just need to be willing to learn. Everyone starts somewhere, and you might surprise yourself with what you can achieve if you stick with it.

6. What certifications or competition titles have you achieved?

I hold a 2nd Dan black belt in Taekwondo. I’ve also competed in Poomsae at state and national level. Aiming for international next!
